As she dedicated her life
untiringly to gaining political, social,
and economic rights for women for
half a century, Susan B. Anthony
knew that gaining the vote was the
key in this struggle. Each year, she
lobbied Congress for women’s
suffrage, touting the importance of
federal rather than state
enfranchisement. Although she did
not live to see the realization of her
dream of women gaining the vote
in 1920, her loyalty to the cause and
her personal integrity have
assured her a prominent place in the
history of our nation and in the
hearts of women everywhere who
enjoy the rights she was so
instrumental in securing.
